In a new episode of CBS This Morning, Chef Floyd Cardoz, who has spent years cooking at restaurants in California, Colorado, and Nevada, discusses how his family and his children enjoy eating the food they are eating.
Cardoz is a regular on the CBS show, and the conversation turned to his childhood food and cooking skills.
Carduz, who grew up in Los Angeles, Calif., recalls when he was hungry and had to make dinner.
“I would be making the food that was on the plate, and I would just get a little bit of cheese and stuff,” he said.
And that was the beginning of the way that I grew up, and it kind of shaped the way I became who I am today.””

Cardoz’s family has been known to get creative with their meals.
“It’s a family thing,” Cardoz said.
Cardozo, his wife and daughter all started eating at restaurants around the same time, Cardoz says.
“We all loved to eat at restaurants, so we did a little cooking together, and we were all very, very close.”
Cardoz also had an early interest in cooking, which he still carries with him to his restaurants.
“The first time I made pasta with butter, I remember, I was like, This is going to be good,” he recalled.
“After that, I had the first recipe I ever made at home that I still make today.”
Cardozo says the family is a little more relaxed about his cooking now, and his daughters say they are more comfortable with their food now.
Cardoso, who now works as a chef, says the children are always happy to try out a new dish.
“They’re very playful and they like to be able to try something new,” he says.
Cardosa says they enjoy cooking together as a family.
“When we are cooking together it is always fun,” he told CBS News.
“Sometimes it is challenging and sometimes it is relaxing, but the family always loves each other’s company.”
The couple says Cardozo has also had a great time teaching the kids cooking.
“My kids love cooking,” Cardozo said.
“[They] enjoy doing it for me.”
Cardosa said he is planning to open a restaurant next door.
“That’s what we have been talking about for the past two years,” Cardosa explained.
“For us, we want to have a restaurant that will be in the same building as this one.”
Cardoso also has a sister, Amanda Cardoz.
“She’s doing a little restaurant in the backyard,” he shared.
“One of my daughters is doing a restaurant at her house, too, and my wife is going up to the house of her friend and doing her restaurant.”
